Module 38 – Skills for Residential Experiences

1st & 2nd April 2017 @ Ferny Crofts

With the main camping season just around the corner, this is an ideal ‘practical skills’ weekend to get leaders thinking about ‘the OUT in Scouting’ and learn in a safe environment.

The weekend is an ideal opportunity to learn from experienced trainers/scouters and from other delegates attending.

This is an additional ‘skills’ module which expands on Module 16 (Introduction to Residential Experiences), which ideally should be completed prior to attending this weekend.

There is a Module 16 being run on the Friday evening (31st March) at Ferny Crofts.

This weekend is also very useful to those seeking to become Nights Away Adviser

Leader Training Courses Coming Up

The adult training scheme in Scouting is modular and flexible, concentrating on learning rather than just attending courses. Training can be carried out using a range of methods: one to one, courses, videos, workbooks and e-learning.

The Modules cover the skills required for all roles in Scouting.

Leader Training Dates for 2017

The adult training scheme course dates for 2017 have been published on the Hampshire County Scouts website.

If you want to sign up for any of the weekend multi-module courses then book early to avoid disappointment.

S.S. “Shieldhall” – Youth Training Day – Sat 15th Oct 2016

All “signed-up” young participants will also receive a free ticket for the short (3 hour) cruise that “Shieldhall” will be making on the afternoon of Saturday 17th September (15.00 to 18.00 hrs) when we will be sailing from 48 Berth down the length of Southampton Water to the Solent. It is planned that the Southampton Maritime Trust will be onboard outlining details of their Forgotten Wrecks of the First World War Project plus on the way back we should see the departing cruise liners “Brittannia”, “Celebrity Eclipse” and “Emerald Princess”.

The full adult’s ticket price for this sailing is £27.50 but each group will be entitled to two half price tickets for accompanying adults. The full rate is applicable to other adults over and above the two as said. The ticket price for youngsters over and above those attending the Y.T.D. is £10.00 / hd.

We can also advise that we will allow early boarding and the opportunity of visiting all area’s (under supervision) i.e. the bridge, engine room, etc., as we prepare for going to sea.

At this moment in time I can confirm that there are still places available albeit a little limited in number. Early application to our Mr Nigel Philpott, Ticketing Manager, for these remaining places is therefore recommended. To book “on-line” @ www.ss-shieldhall.co.uk or call 0844 357 2329.

Hampshire Training Update – February

Details reflecting where we are with bookings for training modules for February to April 2016 can be found on the County website at http://www.hampshirescouting.org.uk/module-bookings/

We usually stop at 24 delegates on each, and really need a minimum of 10 delegates to run most modules (residential a minimum of 15) – please ensure you book on Adult Training Modules in plenty of time to prevent cancellation!

There are currently a couple of places left on the Residential weekend on the 19th & 20th March covering Modules 5,7,8,9,12(a/b),16, if you want to attend this weekend book soon.

Canoe Club: BCU Courses in 2016

The Southampton City District Canoe Club is offering a selection of different courses, including:

  • Paddle Power Start: For beginners who wish to try the sport in one session
  • 1 star Paddlepower passport (Beginners): The basic skills of kayaking and a short evening trip
  • 2 star Paddlepower discovery (Intermediate): Paddle skill elements for both kayak and canoe
  • 3 star (Advanced): Advanced skills to handle a kayak or a canoe

The weekly fee for each session on all the above courses are just £3 for those in member groups, or £6 for non-member groups
