Do you like to sing, dance or act? Sign up now for Roverang 2019

What is it?

Roverang is a Scout and Guide show that is focused on having fun whilst putting on a stage show in a professional theatre. It gives young people the opportunity to sing, dance and act on stage of a professional theatre. There are NO AUDITIONS, we want everyone to have the opportunity. We want young people to have fun, make friends and enjoy the magic of the theatre.

Who?

Roverang is open to all members of the Scout and Guide movements from Beavers and Rainbows up to Network and Rangers (Up to 25 years old)

Where?

Rehearsals take place every Sunday at St Marys Independent School, Midanbury Lane, SO184DJ

Adults, Juniors and Kids rehearsals are 4pm – 6:30pm. Miniz (Rainbows and Beavers) rehearsal times will be set a little later but will be about an hour long at some time between these times.

Cost?

We charge a one off subscription fee of £45 for cast members except for the miniz who pay £25. This covers the cost of the rehearsal venue, costumes etc.

Sign me up!

The sign up day is Sunday 14th Oct 4pm  at the school. Adults, Juniors and Kids cast will stay until 6.30pm for their first rehearsal. Miniz cast will start rehearsals a couple of months later.

It’s a great opportunity to experience something that most youngsters don’t have the opportunity to take part in. if you’re not sure if it’s for you, come along for a few weeks and see what you think.

Beavers Christingle Service 2017

DC’s Diary

Well done to Eve, Elaine and the Beaver team for the Christingle service at St James’ Church.

All the Beavers really enjoyed the songs and their Christingle messages.

Thanks to all those who passed on gifts to John Stevens from Hampshire Hospital Scouting as well.

Canoe Club: BCU Courses in 2017

The Southampton City District Canoe Club is offering a selection of different courses, including:

  • Paddle Power Start: For beginners who wish to try the sport in one session
  • 1 star Paddlepower passport (Beginners): The basic skills of kayaking and a short evening trip
  • 2 star Paddlepower discovery (Intermediate): Paddle skill elements for both kayak and canoe
  • 3 star (Advanced): Advanced skills to handle a kayak or a canoe

The weekly fee for each session on all the above courses are just £3.50 for those in member groups, or £7 for non-member groups. The weekend course fees are just £12 for member groups or £24 for non-member groups.

District Swimming Test Evening: April 24th

Do you have Scouts and Explorers attending Wye Valley who don’t have a blue card? If so, read on.
Scouting requires you to hold a blue card swimming certificate to prove that you are a competent swimmer before you join in our wide range of water activities. If you are going to Wye Valley Camp you will need to attend this test evening to be able to kayak.
 
To earn your certificate you need to swim 50m in light clothing and tread water for 5 minutes. A buoyancy aid can be used if necessary.
 
When?
Monday 24th April 6:00pm – 6:45pm or 6:45-7:30pm
You can finish as soon as you’ve completed your test or stay for longer if you want to earn a level 1 or 2 swimming badge.
 
Where?
Regent’s Park School Community Pool
Richville Road Entrance. Please bring light clothes to swim in. Eg PJs bottoms and a tee-shirt

Free Kayak Taster Sessions for Scouts and Explorers during Easter Holidays

Are you a Scout or Explorer? Do you want to try Kayaking?
If you answered yes to both then join our “Taster Sessions” on April 8th

In a break with tradition we are holding a taster day on Saturday 8 April for troops and units.  We plan to have two sessions, one in the morning 10:00-12:00 and one in the afternoon 13:00-1500.

This is the first day of the school holiday.  Saints are not playing at home that week.

Venue: The club is based at the 25th Southampton Scout H.Q. at Crosshouse Public Hard, Crosshouse Road, just by the Itchen Bridge.

Personal Kit Required: Old trainers, nylon lightweight anorak, swim wear, T-shirt, shorts, jumper and towel. Optional: Wet suit, wet suit shoes and waterproof trousers The personal equipment is likely to get wet so bring a dry set of clothes (including shoes). Bring bags to separate your wet and dry clothing. If the participant needs to wear glasses for this activity please bring a suitable securing strap.

Swimming Ability: All Scouts and Explorers wishing to go afloat must pass the District Swimming Test, which can be arranged through your Scout or Explorer Leader.

Hampshire WSJ Leader Selection Weekend May 5th-7th


The Hampshire World Scout Jamboree Leader Selection Weekend will be taking place May 5th – 7th 2017

The 24th World Scout Jamboree will be held in the summer of 2019 in North America, although the location is in the USA, the event is being jointly hosted with the Mexican and Canadian Scout Associations and promises to be a life changing experience for all involved.

Hampshire County Scouts are now looking at forming the leadership teams, with selection for young people later in the year. If you are interested in being a part of this adventure, either as a leader or as part of the International Service Team then please register your interest by visiting www.hampshirescouting.org.uk/wsj.

11th Southampton Annual Quiz: 31st March 2017

The 11th Southampton are hosting their Annual Quiz Night on the 31st March 2017, at 7pm at their HQ. Teams will be made up of around 8 people, with refreshments available.

The cost is £2 for adults and 50p for kids, with tea, Coffee, soft drinks Cakes, pastries, and biscuits available to purchase.

You are welcome to bring your own beverages and nibbles, and please do bring prizes for the raffle.
